Maybe you didn't know this but I offer private yoga and mindfulness sessions.
Having taught group classes for 22 years I have no idea why I haven't promoted the wonderful benefits of taking private lessons until now. Perhaps it's because I have finally reached a place where I really feel I have something to offer. This blog will give you an outline of my approach and my areas of expertise.
First of all remember I am a yoga teacher! I teach yoga. I am not a physiotherapist, a counsellor or doctor of any kind. I cannot diagnose. Yoga is not a substitute for medical treatment. If you have a specific health concern seek medical advice before coming along. Yoga practices can support and nurture you holistically, helping you cope better physically and mentally with any health issues you might have.
Private or group class? A group class is is great if you want some general guidance and instruction, but if you want a class that's tailor made to suit your individual needs, then a private class is essential. Maybe you are a complete beginner and you want a few lessons to ground you in the basics before attending a group class; maybe there's a posture you'd like to master; perhaps you'd like to learn ways to reduce your stress levels; maybe you need some guidance on breath techniques or perhaps you'd like to start a mindfulness practice and don't know where to begin. There are many reasons you might want a little extra help. A private class can offer you that help.
Every teacher is different. Each will have their own areas of interest and expertise so it is important that you align with your chosen teacher as you'll be working closely together.
With this in mind I'll give you a bit of an overview of my own approach.
What is your why? The first thing I'll ask you to do is fill in an intake form. On it you'll be asked why you want these lessons. It is very important to spend some time reflecting on this.
Try to be as specific as you can. This is how you will get the most out of your lessons.
Once I understand your 'why' I can then start to come up with some ideas as to what we might work on. It is unlikely I'll come to you with a fully formed lesson plan, but I certainly will come with a few ideas. A lot will depend on how you feel on the day.
Checking in. At the beginning of each session we will have a short sit to centre ourselves and then we will have a check-in. I will ask you how you feel, your energy levels, physical and emotional wellbeing. We will try to tailor the class to meet you in the moment as there would be no point in doing a strong energetic flow if you're feeling exhausted.
My areas of expertise. I love helping people develop a sustainable home practice. In order for a practice to become a habit it is important make it short and simple in the beginning. Establish the habit first and then if over time you wish to change or lengthen it then that's fine. I can help you with this. I have a special interest in mindfulness meditation and have practiced and trained extensively so am well placed to help you get started or even to help you develop your current practice.
Bare in mind yoga is a holistic practice encompassing asana, pranayama, relaxation and meditation. I will spend time listening to you to find out what really interests you and will use this as our starting place.
How many classes? How many classes you book will depend on what it is you want to work on. If for example you want to develop a home practice, then you'd need about 3-5 sessions. Yoga is not a quick fix and the longer we work together the more we can learn about what is working for you and what is not. It's a collaboration.
Where will classes take place? If you have the space at your house then that suits me best as my house is very small, and with four of us and a dog it's not always conducive to teaching yoga! However I will make an exception if this is not possible. I am also happy to teach online via Zoom.
Prices range from £55 for a 1 hour individual lesson to £240 for a bundle of 5 lessons (can be paid in instalments).  If you think you might benefit from a 1-1 lesson then please do contact me to have a chat about it. Below is a testimonial from a recent private student, have a read and see what you think.
You are unique so your private yoga and mindfulness sessions will also be unique. I aim to help you achieve your individual goals. Whether it's developing a home practice, mastering a posture, or starting to cultivate the habit of mindfulness, I'm here to support you every step of the way.
